This position will support major programs delivering impact aligned with NREL’s mission in support of National Security and Defense partners.
NREL is seeking a National Security and Defense Partnerships Capture Manager to support classified partnership development activities within the Defense Sector, but also support similar activities with the National Security Sector on an as needed basis. The incumbent will join the National Security and Defense (NS&D) Team in our Strategic Partnership Office (SPO). They will work collaboratively with the NS&D Team and broader SPO Team, as well as the National Security Research Oversight Office (NSRO) leadership, Principal Investigators (PIs), Project Controllers (PCs), and other key stakeholders across NREL’s Science and Technology (S&T) Directorates.
Activities will include primarily supporting the Defense Sector Lead on partnership strategy development and conducting outreach on classified systems to partners outside of NREL or hosting partners at the laboratory, collaborating with Center Directors and Principal Investigators (PIs) to develop compelling and strategically aligned new opportunities, statements of work, budget estimates, and following up directly with clients to identify next steps. The role may be called upon to support the National Security Sector Lead on similar activities. The role will be positioned to expand NREL’s impact and support to the Department of Defense (DOD) and other U.S. government agencies with critical national security missions, as they seek solutions for their most challenging energy problems. The successful candidate will be assessed against their ability to identify and onboard strategic partnership agreements aligned with NREL’s Science and Technology (S&T) research mission and priorities.
The successful candidate will have the ability to learn, understand, and navigate a broad swath of NREL’s technical research areas. They will be expected to build and maintain strong internal relationships with researchers, project managers, and subject matter experts. They will work collaboratively with these contributors on requirements development, proposal development, final pricing, statements of work, and closing partnership agreements.
Remote work will not be considered for this position; the role requires regular presence at NREL’s sites in Colorado.
