Providing assurance that the ScottishPower Safety Rules (Electrical & Mechanical) are being consistently and effectively applied across all business units and contractors, you will be responsible for rigorous operational auditing of staff and contractors in the Regulated business, addressing negative trends and implementing (where appropriate) corrective action.

Offering expert counsel to the Regulated Business Executive team and line management on operational safety matters, you will contribute to the production, refinement and updating of electrical safety rules, procedures, and training programmes whilst supporting production and delivery of the Operational Training and Authorisation process.

You will also lead and contribute to operational safety incident investigations through their entire life-cycle including representing the company in legal processes where necessary

What you’ll be doing

  • Formally auditing authorised staff and contractors in the Regulated business to ensure the highest level of compliance with the Safety Rules and associated supporting safety documentation, you will target Safety Rule breaches and the elimination of electrical accidents.

  • Providing high quality technical audit reports in a credible and objective way, you will recommend changes and updates to Safety Rules and procedures, reviewing and updating documents as necessary to ensure the business complies with relevant legislation.

  • Communicating changes effectively to business and contracting staff, including in-person delivery to operational teams, you will robustly pursue high standards of safety rule compliance in an objective and consistent manner, allowing staff and Managers to be in no doubt, as to what standards of safety rule compliance are required.

  • Become fully conversant with ScottishPower Safety Rules (Electrical & Mechanical) and supporting documentation, you will be able to provide expert opinion when Safety Rule interpretation is required.

  • Additionally, you will assist Group Compliance in the application of authorisation processes, conducting authorisation interviews as required, auditing of contractors to ensure they have an effective internal audit processes in place, systematically conducting site audits of operational equipment for compliance with legislation and during emergencies, ensure the correct training and assessment is provided/carried out, conducting Emergency Authorisation interviews of external support staff.

  • Producing, updating and reviewing training materials in conjunction with People & Organisation and Technical Training departments, you will also deliver presentations to staff and contractors in the Regulated businesses on documentation and procedural updates, in addition to Operational Safety Seminars.

What you’ll bring

  • Possessing broad Senior Authorised Person experience in a UK DNO or TNO, you will be a proven technical expert, displaying your expert knowledge of ScottishPower Safety Rules (Electrical & Mechanical), expert knowledge of Regulated Business Safety Rules, associated policies, procedures and working practices.

  • With expert knowledge of Regulated Business Operational Authorisation process and training requirements, you will be able to assess suitability of staff for various levels of safety authorisation.

  • Educated to HNC level (as a minimum) in an Engineering discipline or possessing significant compensatory experience, you will bring your knowledge of health and safety processes from a technical operational background in the energy sector, with specific focus on electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Additionally, you will have a track record in the drafting of technical reports with minimal supervision, be able to devise solutions to complex problems/challenges and identify relevant best practice in terms of safety rule compliance and implementation of improvements where appropriate.
