Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking a motivated individual to join our amazing Renewables Operations team.
As a crucial member of the Renewables Leadership Team, the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, management and execution of all activities on their respective wind and solar farms. You will ensure plans, processes and measures are in place to achieve safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of the facility to maximize operational effectiveness and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and contractual commitments. Reporting to the Director, US Renewables, you will provide direction and work closely with Site Managers to achieve Safety and Performance Targets and will ensure all required activities are completed in a professional and timely manner.

You will contribute to our team by
- Accountable for all Operational and Maintenance activities, performance, and safety at assigned wind and/or solar plants, including oversight of Site Manager’s day-to-day activities.
- Responsible for the integration of new sites, developed or acquired, and leads all aspects of all integration activities to ensure complete integration and handover from Construction. This includes acting as the Operations rep in development projects, planning for construction handover by ordering spare parts, preparing, and furnishing O&M buildings, assisting in the hiring of new site managers and the management and oversight of onboarding process.
- Working closely with Site Managers to guide and direct activities required to meet facility objectives.
- Maintaining compliance with all company policies, procedures, and contractual requirements.
- Ensuring the equipment reliability and capacity is achieved to meet the plant commitments.
- Responsible for the development of long-range maintenance plans for major equipment based on sound engineering practices and OEM recommendations for the plant life cycle.
- Completion of facility reporting requirements including environmental, safety, budgeting, and plant performance.
- Drafting and providing input on the development of the annual budget and long-term plans. Projects and controls work group expenditures to maintain compliance with budgeted funds.
- Setting high and challenging productivity and quality standards for self and work group; encourages new ideas and work methods to lower costs and increase efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Holding weekly meetings with assigned sites to review and manage safety, LPF, O&M spending and maintenance needs.
- Implementing appropriate change recommendations of company leadership team.
- Planning and controlling group expenditures to control costs and provide for the availability of resources.
- Providing feedback to the Director of Renewables on Site Manager performance, highlights, and areas for improvement.
- Leading the use and management of the CMMS (Maximo) for all O&M work done and parts used so that accurate records can be maintained for future use.
- Analyzing and reporting against performance metrics and analyze & identify issues impacting operational performance and recommend actions for continuous improvement to ensure operational financial targets are met.
- Gaining and leveraging a deep understanding of major OEM contracts on each site in a way that protects the organization as well as ensures accountability to the OEM.
- Participating in Business Development efforts as an Operations SME in due diligence efforts, assessment of target plant conditions, assessment of risk on target plants, O&M cost estimations and recommendations on major risks identified.
- Leading all operations and maintenance supplier relationships including, but not limited to, craft labor, predictive maintenance services, specialized services, and qualified repair companies.
- Closely working with Asset Engineering to align preventive maintenance, advise on various solutions needed and obtain technical advice and recommendations on forced outages.
- Understanding changes and communicating effectively with team members. Developing and monitoring O&M KPIs for plant and educating plant staff in the understanding of the measures.
- Maintaining and improving relationships with community groups and residents to understand concerns and liaison with Site Manager on issues.
- Promoting a highly positive work environment focused on improvement and forward-looking takeaways with a helpful approach to supporting sites and other corporate support groups.
- Leading and responding to various corporate support groups request, inquiries and needs while gathering information required from Site Managers to allow focus on site efforts.
What you will bring to the role
Education
- Completed Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree or advanced trade certificate. Will consider other related Operational experience.
- A completed Degree, Associates Degree (AA), or completion of a 2-year technical college/school program related to plant operations or maintenance. Other equivalencies including a Journeyman Trade Certification may be considered with significant plant O&M management experience.
Skills and Experience
- Four to six years related experience leading operations and maintenance staff at a power generation site, preferably at wind, solar or high voltage type facilities.
- Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant O&M.
- Strong background and understanding of high voltage substations, wind turbines and solar sites preferred.
- Able to make competent and prompt decisions in emergency situations without perfect information.
- Ability to use and manage work within a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), Maximo ® experience preferred.
- Capable of writing operating procedures, work requests, and purchase requisitions.
- Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals, and Piping & Instrument Drawings.
- Able to clearly, concisely, and succinctly report to Senior Management highly technical items in simplified understandable terms.
- Able to understand and apply the big picture and corporate objectives to their specific situation.
- Will write routine reports, solve practical problems, clearly communicate tasks and needs, and train other personnel.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis and reporting.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and stairs.
- Regular travel to assigned sites will be expected, visiting each site regularly.
Additional Details:
The pay range for this position is $126,825 to $140,175. The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and prior relevant experience.
This position is eligible for health care benefits, retirement benefits, paid time off, and annual bonus.
This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
As this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug test is required, subject to applicable law.
