Job Summary

The Operations Technician - B is responsible of all pressure regulation, cathodic protection and SCADA related tasks throughout Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG) Greenwich territory. The Operations Technician - B installs, maintains and reports on all pressure regulation devices, cathodic protection systems and SCADA related tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operates and maintains the Gate Stations and the associated pressure regulation equipment in a safe and efficient manner to accomplish company goals
  • Learns and assists in duties of Operations Technician A so as to qualify for promotion, which will normally be accomplished within three years.
  • Records all necessary readings and logs at Gate Stations and pressure regulation equipment.
  • Performs all compliance related pressure regulation, cathodic protection, SCADA and other work per the company standards and the O&M manual.
  • Assist management staff in internal and external compliance audits.
  • Performs all other duties and assignments as required.
  • Conduct routine Cathodic Protection Surveys and troubleshoots problems relating to mechanical equipment.
  • Provides assistance to Cathodic Protection personnel consultants.
  • Installs, maintains, and changes pressure recording device as necessary.
  • Perform maintenance on regulator equipment and associated hardware.
  • Repairs and maintains equipment at Gate Stations, District Regulator Stations,
  • Odorization equipment, regulators, rectifiers, pilot controls, motor instruments and other controls as necessary
  • Operates and maintains computer and electronic equipment related to SCADA operations.
  • Maintains and updates all files (electronic or paper) related to cathodic protection, regulators, odorization and SCADA.
  • Learn and assists in duties of Operations Technicians A to qualify for advancement, usually achieved within two years.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English effectively, and demonstrate skills in basic mathematics.
  • Must be able to use blueprints, schematics and technical manuals, and follow oral and written instructions
  • Must be physically able to perform the required duties.
  • Must have a good mechanical and electrical aptitude and be able to achieve an acceptable score in company mechanical and electrical aptitude tests
  • Must be able to learn to use testing equipment and tools properly.
  • Must be able to learn to maintain and operate all Measuring Stations, equipment and Control and Data Acquisition equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to complete company sponsored training programs in Cathodic Protection (NACE Base Course), Operator Qualification program, the regulator maintenance and operation of Measuring Stations, Control and Data Acquisition equipment and SCADA operations in order to progress to Operations Technicians A.
  • Must be a high school or trade school graduate and have a valid Connecticut driver’s license
  • Must be able to work independently with a minimum of supervision

This position requires a medical certification exam and will require passing a respirator medical qualification test. Any applicant transferring into the department or filling this position from the outside will be required to provide after hours and weekend emergency coverage for Gate Station, District Regulator Station and SCADA (On-Call coverage).
