Talen Energy is seeking an experienced Outage Manager. Vital for our Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, the Outage Manager is responsible for ensuring that refueling and forced outage preparations are completed in accordance with the outage milestone process, the Outage Manager is a . Developing and communicating outage goals to the Nuclear Department. Developing and maintaining the long range outage plan. Management of the outage budget. Benchmarking outage performance at industry leading stations. Critiquing outage performance. Ensuring that the Outage Management Process is implemented in a manner that ensures the safe and effective execution of the Station Schedule during refueling and forced outages. Responsible for scheduling and coordinating all outage work activities in a manner that balances and optimizes the key considerations of; risk management, plant availability, equipment reliability, radiation exposure, equipment out-of-service time, error prevention techniques, training and qualifications as well as resource utilization.

What will you own?

  • Owns the following processes: Outage Management; Outage Scoping; Outage Scheduling ; Outage Risk Management, Key Performance Indicators for outages; and the Forced Outage Plan. Provides direction for the Outage Control Center and supervises the Outage Scheduling Supervisors, Department Analyst and Outage System Schedulers.

  • Coordinates Pre Outage, Outage and Post Outage work windows with the on-line windows to ensure successful On Line and outage activities.

  • Responsible for coordination and interface between Talen Energy Susquehanna Nuclear and Talen Energy Marketing for outage related activities.

  • Acts as interface between Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Work Management.

  • Responsible for the nuclear, radiological, and business risk assessment of station activities for outages.

  • Responsible to ensure safe, efficient, and economical station outages by balancing the input from the following station organizations: Mechanical Maintenance, Electrical Maintenance, I&C Maintenance, Chemistry, Radiological Protection, Operations, Station Engineering, Nuclear Design Engineering, Security, Nuclear Training, Regulatory Affairs, Nuclear Procurement, Nuclear Business Improvement, Corrective Action & Assessment Nuclear Fuels & Analysis.

  • Ensures constructive and healthy relationship with all customers.

  • Provides leadership to station organizations with respect the prioritization, scheduling, planning, and execution of work activities to support equipment reliability and returning the unit to service.

  • Ensures performance standards for Outage Management personnel are understood and periodically evaluated in accordance with company policy.

  • Develops and implements individual development plans for subordinates.

  • Performs Outage and Nuclear Emergency Response Organization (NERO) duties as qualified and assigned. Maintains and improves qualifications and proficiency for the duties and responsibilities associated with the requirements of Outage Manager.

  • Ensures on going industry involvement for Outage Management improvement through activities such as; benchmarking, industry working committees, owners groups, participating in assist visits, etc.

  • Actively uses the Corrective Action and Self Assessment processes including quality resolution of assigned action items as well as support of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) teams and Self Assessments such as After Action Reviews (AAR).

  • Owns the following procedures and guidelines: SSES Outage Management Process and Shutdown Risk Management

  • Is a Leader/Active Participant/Member of the following station committees/meetings: Daily Station Status Meeting; Daily Station Leadership Meeting; Outage Review Board; Outage Core Team; Outage Scope Panel; Station Health Committee; Station ALARA Committee; MRC; CARB; and other committees as assigned.

What you have

  • Competent understanding of existing Company Policies and Station Procedures; Established communication skills; Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Familiar with the following: Work document planning, review, component information and modification process; knowledge of work implementation and Work Management Process. P-3 – Develop P-3 work windows, logic ties and resource manpower loading. Capable of obtaining various P-3 reports for both outage and on-line periods. Online and outage risk tools. Four-year college degree desired: BS/BE (or Equivalent Experience)

  • Extensive knowledge of nuclear plant operations is desired in the form of a Senior Reactor Operator license, Shift Technical Advisor, plant specific certification or equivalent experience.

FSAR Qualification Requirements

  • Management Position Responsible for Work Management (Outage)

  • Education: Shall hold a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience: Shall have eight years in responsible positions related to power generation, of which three years shall be nuclear power plant experience. A maximum of four years of the remaining five years of experience may be fulfilled by satisfactory completion of academic or related technical training
