Your Opportunity

Two Temporary (Up to 4 - 12 Months) Full Time Student Position.

You will obtain extensive knowledge and experience in the operation of power generation or related industrial system equipment to provide hands-on responsibility for starting, stopping and monitoring of all plant equipment.

As a Student Operator, you will support the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Power Facility while gaining valuable industry experience.

You will contribute to our team by

  • Assisting with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment at the 900MW CCGT power plant.
  • Supporting the completion of ‘Lock-out Tag-out’, ‘Confined Space’, and other permits required for plant equipment work.
  • Performing hazard identification and mitigation under supervision.
  • Working rotating work shifts and responding quickly to plant conditions or requirements.
  • Assisting with data collection, report preparation, and routine inspections.
  • Participating in training programs and gaining certifications relevant to the role.
  • Maintaining real-time communications with the grid operator, Energy Trading, and the IESO to ensure compliance with dispatch and system control.
  • Ensuring all environmental permit conditions are constantly met.
  • Supporting the development of standards and procedures for quality assurance in the area of expertise and contributing to audits, inspections, and assessments for continuous improvement.
  • Utilizing the facility’s computer management system to enter, review, and plan work orders.
  • Performing maintenance and operations PMS as required, including planning and completion of work.
  • Assisting in additional training and support as required.
  • Performing inspections on each system in the plant.
  • Assisting in identifying and performing the root cause analysis of system failures.
  • Willing to work independently most of the time but can effectively work in a team environment when needed.

What you will bring to the role

Education

  • Completed High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Ontario Operating Engineer at least 4th Class Certificate is preferable

Skills and Experience:

  • Aptitude in prioritizing and the ability to be accountable and respond to several tasks under possible hazardous and stressful conditions.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
  • Adequate knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude and dexterity.
  • Demonstrate the ability to learn and interpret mechanical drawings, logic drawings, and piping and instrument drawings.
  • Strong math and logic skills.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions:

  • Heavy industrial facility designated as a safety sensitive location.
  • Physical mobility and ability to use PPE required.
  • Union and out-of-scope workforce.

Additional Details

Union: Power Workers’ Union

Wage Range: $26.14 per hour.

Hours of Work: 40-hours a week, rotating shift.

As this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug & alcohol test is required, subject to applicable law.

Clearance of a pre-employment medical will also be required.
