Principal Consultant, Capital Project Development and Permitting (Principal Level)

ERM seeks a motivated Principal Consultant, Capital Project Development and Permitting in the Gulf Coast Business Unit (e.g., Texas, Louisiana, and Tampa, FL). If you have significant consulting experience in the Diversified Energy Industry (i.e., traditional and/or renewable sector, power generation and transmission, and/or oil and gas sector) and are great at building client relationships, commercial development, managing projects and teams, and contributing subject matter expertise to permit large capital projects, this position is for you. This opportunity is for a Senior-level professional looking to advance their career with a global environmental leader, and to make a significant impact in successfully implementing ERM's global strategy.

ERM works closely with energy companies at every stage of their business/asset life cycle to help them plan for, create/develop, and effectively/efficiently operate both traditional and non-traditional assets. Consistent with this focus, ERM is seeking an experienced professional to join our firm as a key client-facing energy sector subject matter expert. Our ideal candidate will have pre-existing client relationships and a proven record of winning work within the energy market.

ERM is structured to encourage collaboration and networking among regional offices, providing opportunities to collaborate with ERM’s national Low Carbon Energy Transition (LCET) team to share expertise and consulting opportunities. Our many leaders proactively work together to build strategies and campaigns around key business drivers for our clients, with the primary focus of finding and delivering high-profile rewarding projects and building our business.

This position focuses on providing technical and project management leadership with siting, permitting and evaluating environmental impacts of energy projects (capital projects and compliance strategies and implementation). NEPA and FERC regulatory program experience is a plus. Projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse, and may include oil and gas pipeline, low carbon capital development, solar, onshore wind, offshore wind, energy storage and transmission. The position will require the candidate to work both independently and on project teams, and to possess the capacity to manage varying priorities and multiple tasks to work on concurrent projects and meet project deadlines. The candidate will serve as a Project Manager on multi-disciplinary projects with people management requirements as well as focus on the commercial development of ERM’s business. This position has growth potential into our Partner-track or Technical Director programs, depending on experience, interest, and qualifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Working with clients to define, target and develop opportunities within the ERM system, including working with existing ERM account managers and delivery teams to expand existing accounts and opportunities.
• Managing and performing multi-media permitting associated with capital development projects with an emphasis on local, state, and federal permitting, including but not limited to compliance associated with regulations of federal agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.
• Providing technical leadership and direction to mentor and develop ERM's staff proficiency with wetland delineation, habitat and species assessments, permitting, and report writing.
• Demonstrating strong analytical skills, excellent writing and presentation skills, and a mastery of impactful client communication (i.e., technical and commercial communication skills).
• Building strong and trusted relationships with clients and/or business partners.
• Working with ERM’s North America LCET Leadership team and client Account Directors and Account Managers to contribute to robust, proactive Go-to-Market programs to drive commercial growth for capital projects as the energy sector responds to this changing landscape.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's or master's degree in environmental science, engineering or related field. Or the equivalency of 8 years related experience in lieu of education.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience (10+ years preferred) in either a consulting environment or working substantially within the energy sector.
• NEPA Expertise – FERC or other agency experience (applicant or third-party).
• ESHIA (Environmental, Social, and Health Impact Assessment) experience, a plus.
• Recognized technical expertise and an established reputation in the local (Gulf Coast) geography.
• In-depth understanding of the energy sector and the companies operating in this market, including existing relationships that can be leveraged into new business.
• Desire to develop commercially.
• Demonstrated understanding of the energy regulatory environment, key regulatory agencies, and current and emerging issues.
• Business acumen to understand business risks and challenges, and to recognize opportunities to provide facility specific and enterprise-wide, programmatic solutions for clients.
• Demonstrable record in delivering annual sales.
• Attention to detail and commitment to deliver quality work products.
• Demonstrated project management and leadership skills.
• Experience with line management and/or contributing to the professional development of other teammates.
• Enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility, and a desire to work in a growing team.
