Position Summary
The Solutions Specialist will be responsible for selling Duke Energy’s Outdoor Lighting, and Small-Medium Business (SMB) Energy Efficiency/Demand Response products and services. This involves managing the end-to-end sales process – servicing inbound inquiries, obtaining pertinent information from customers to provide targeted solutions, generating sales via outbound prospecting, supporting proposal development, maintaining account relationships, pipeline management and ensuring a smooth handoff for delivery. The Inside Sales Representative will act as a frontline representative of Duke Energy and will be responsible for upholding the highest standards of customer service and brand representation.
This role requires a self-starter with a problem-solving mindset and ability to take full ownership of finding the right solution for the customer. The ideal candidate will possess prior sales or account management experience, be comfortable using CRM systems, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume sales environment. Experience in sales for outdoor lighting, demand response and energy efficiency, along with basic design skills are a plus. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that plays a crucial role in driving revenue growth for Duke’s Products and Services (P&S) team. The inside sales team will be focused on driving sales for the following business units in P&S:
Outdoor Lighting provides customized lighting solutions for homeowners, businesses, developers, local governments, and residential communities – the offering provides customers with an end-to-end lighting solution (from sales to design to installation and ongoing maintenance) for a monthly payment
Demand Response and Energy Efficiency: provides guidance on energy and cost savings solutions for businesses, developers, local governments and property owners.
Primary Duties
Own end-to-end sales for small and medium-sized accounts:
Handle high-volume of inbound customer inquiries via phone, email, website, and other channels.
Identify customer needs and offer consultation on products in-line with regional regulations and defined selling strategies.
Sell products and solutions to new customer accounts, managing the full sales process from lead engagement to close.
Upsell existing customers by identifying opportunities for higher-volume purchases or premium product offerings.
Develop proposals/quotes tailored to customer requirements.
Provide basic post-sale customer service support and coordinate with internal teams to resolve complex requests outside of inside sales team scope.
Explaining program benefits, assisting in movement through the project process including assistance with identifying trade allies and helping customers understand the application process.
Generate new business and manage account relationships for medium-sized accounts (e.g., HOAs, schools/universities, hospitals):
Develop and maintain pipeline of prospective customers (through market intelligence, online research, etc.), with focus on underserved areas within Duke’s footprint.
Make outbound calls to identified prospects and drive sales.
Partner with outside sales as needed for complex opportunities that may require on-site sales support.
Provide ongoing account management support post-sale to drive cross-sell across P&S products, ensure positive customer experience and repeat business.
Perform other sales functions including but not limited to:
Track activities, leads and prospective opportunities in CRM system.
Must have a thorough working knowledge of all the of the company’s products and services.
Allocate incoming customer inquiries between inside and outside sales teams.
Develop and manage sales documentation (including customer request forms, proposal iterations, contracts, etc.)
Coordinate seamless hand-offs to design, engineering and customer support teams after deal is closed.
Collaborate in team meetings to provide input on sales strategies.
Basic Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Business administration or any related degree.
In addition to Bachelors degree, three (3) years of related work experience.
In Lieu of Degree, High School Diploma/GED plus 8 or more years of relevant experience
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Proficient in Microsoft Office software tools.
Proven project management skills.
Demonstrated ability to learn new systems.
Experience successfully working in a team environment to achieve shared goals.
Experience working in utility regulatory environment
Comprehensive financial and business acumen
Analytics capability/ proven ability to analyze market and financial data and research to develop successful customer and product strategies and plans, e.g., market research, market strategy, competitive intelligence, product management, Project development
Facility management, product management, program management, energy management, project management or process management experience.
Demonstrated experience in change management, process integration and implementation and supervisory or management experience
Business operation experience
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills including communications skills, presentation skills, conflict resolution and management skills, excellent leadership skills and good facilitation skills at all levels, both internally and externally to Duke Energy
Working Conditions
Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.
Normal office environment with some travel, including overnight travel and site visits.
Long periods of sitting and extended use of computer and telephone/cell phone or other PDA device.
Some positions may be on call 24/7 as normal work dictates; all positions are on call 24/7 during storm
