A DAY IN THE LIFE
As a key member of the Accounting team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
Review revenue related contracts and ensure revenue transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with US GAAP (ASC 605-25, 985-605)
Active management of deferred revenues in accordance with GAAP and company policies - enabling accurate and timely information is provided to the finance team for purposes of revenue and cash forecasting
Providing bandwidth for ad-hoc projects that help achieve various company initiatives, including the transition to ASC 606
Provide technical Revenue Recognition training to cross functional teams including various Finance, Billing and Operations Teams
Read and interpret complex fee language in legal documents in the form of customer contracts, deducing revenue implications of these agreements and translating the fee models in accordance with US GAAP
Partner with the team and leverage any accounting and/or revenue team stakeholders in various projects to drive opportunities for technology and process improvements
Work with the Operational Controllers and Associates to ensure quality output of Revenue related activities
Update and maintain the company’s revenue recognition policy as business processes evolve and accounting standards change
Responsible for period close activities related to member billings and collections such as manual journal entries, account reconciliations, fluctuation analysis for management and external audit schedules
Act as a liaison with external auditors regarding revenue and proactively resolve all revenue-related issues during the quarterly and year-end audit process.
Perform ad-hoc analysis as necessary to support business partners
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field required from an accredited university
3+ years' experience in public accounting and/or hands-on general ledger accounting experience
CPA or Public Accounting background with Big 8 required
Familiarity or experience with Workday preferred
Strong understanding of GAAP and SOX requirements
Critical thinker and strong problem solver with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to take ownership of projects and drive them through completion
Mature professional with a proven ability to build confidence and trust with internal and external constituencies
Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with both internal co-workers and external sponsors
Responsible for ensuring accuracy, timeliness, compliance, and efficiency of revenue transactions
Data mining and troubleshoot data feeds and provide recommendations for short-term and long-term system solution and process improvement
Accounting ERP experience required
Advanced knowledge of Excel, including pivot tables and v-lookup formulas required
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently, managing responsibilities (i.e. self-starter, self-motivated)
Positive, proactive and team-focused attitude
