NREL's environment offers strong partnerships with industry, academia, and other national laboratories, as well as professional development opportunities and a competitive benefits package for employees.
Learn about NREL’s critical objectives: NREL's Mission and Vision.
The transportation sector is on the verge of an unprecedented period of transition. Electric vehicles, on-demand mobility, e-commerce, and automation have all increased dramatically in recent years and trends suggest no sign of slowing. These new technologies have proven disruptive and created opportunities to re-imagine a transportation/energy system that is more convenient, efficient, and equitable than what Americans experienced historically.
NREL has created a team within the Center for Integrated Mobility Sciences (CIMS) to focus on the clean energy transition for transportation systems. The multi-disciplinary Transportation Energy Transition Analysis (TETA) group is seeking a senior modeler/analyst to contribute to and lead efforts that bridge the gap between industry, government, and academia.
Our ideal candidate will be a widely acclaimed mid-career analyst with substantial expertise in energy systems analysis and modeling who could provide technical and strategic guidance to NREL’s Transportation and Energy Transition Analysis team and serve as a thought leader with the government, national labs, and the scientific community.
This cross-cutting position will provide opportunities to collaborate across NREL and conduct analysis at the intersection of the automotive, mobility, logistics, and power systems industries.
Specifically, this position will require:
1) Developing and using transportation system models to estimate energy use, emissions, clean infrastructure requirements (e.g., EV charging), and related topics
2) Contributing to design, perform, and document results from quantitative analysis to provide insightful results and document them in scientific publications and stakeholder briefings; and
3) Envisioning and secure funding for future research opportunities.
4) Collaborating nationally and internationally with thought leaders to accelerate commercial introduction of diverse clean energy technologies and mentoring younger staff.
The TETA group focuses on modeling and analysis that improve our understanding of long-term transformations of transportation and mobility systems (e.g., transition towards clean energy and sustainable solutions) and their integration with the broader energy system.
In this exciting role, you will lead projects to support multiple clients (e.g., DOE, EPA, CEC) and inform key National and local stakeholders. We are seeking passionate candidates with a robust understanding of transportation and energy systems and with experience in the execution of projects that advance the science and/or implementation of advanced technologies in those systems. Candidates must have a proven ability to self-manage their time and be proactive in problem solving and have experience working collaboratively with diverse teams and interacting with clients.
The successful candidate will also have opportunities to support the group’s internal development of strategic priorities and initiatives to support the lab’s vision, strategy, and execution. This senior-level position will also require the expansion of the team’s client base and creation of project proposals to support growth.
