Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Settlements Accounting team!

We are seeking a highly motivated Settlements Specialist to join our dynamic team at Capital Power. As a Settlements Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting our energy trading business, ensuring flawless invoicing, accounting, and payment/collections for various trading transactions as well as executing value-add projects that could include power, natural gas, and/or environmental. You will contribute to our team by

  • Supporting month-end general ledger close processes through the daily settlement and check-out process for trading transactions, preparation of entries including accruals, timely collection and payment activities, account reconciliations, and analysis of results.
  • Coordination and alignment of transaction details and other data between 3rd party counterparties, and internal business partners including Finance, Trading and Origination, Information Services, Legal, and Risk Management groups.
  • Working with the Allegro energy trading and risk management system, Oracle EPM system and other applications to execute daily and monthly activities.
  • Maintaining updated documentation and checklists around the settlement processes, ensuring adherence to CSOX and other internal controls.
  • Supporting new business initiatives and continuous process improvement projects by incorporating changes into day-to-day processes.
  • Maintaining a strong working rapport with both internal and external parties, including accurately responding to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assisting with deliverables associated with quarter-end interim reviews and year-end audits.
  • Adhering to HSE procedures/rules and standards.

What you will bring to the role

Education

  • Degree/diploma in accounting or related field.
  • Progress towards a professional accounting designation or CPA designation is an asset.

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of energy trading finance, risk or equivalent experience including AR and/or AP experience.
  • Ideal candidate will have previous experience and knowledge developing Excel models and tools required to reconcile large amounts of data between disparate sources, and an understanding of the wholesale electricity markets and charges.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office suite of applications, Excel in particular.
  • Previous experience with trade settlement applications (e.g., Allegro, TriplePoint) and EPM applications (e.g. Oracle, SAP) is considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
  • Overtime hours required during peak periods including weekends based on timing of deadlines.

Additional Details

Hours of Work: 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week

Union: CSU52 (T1)

Wage: $39.28 - $46.84 per hour

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
