We are looking for a motivated and passionate Software Engineering Intern to join our Systems and Analysis team for the summer. Our software spans the full stack of our company: instrumentation modeling, control logic, data collection, data processing, data analysis, simulation, system modeling, and data visualization. This role is a great opportunity to develop professional software and scientific analysis skills.


As a Software Engineering Intern at CarbonCapture, you will have the opportunity to work with cross-functional groups to build solutions to a variety of technical challenges. The scientific Python ecosystem (pandas, NumPy, and SciPy) is core to our software ecosystem. We develop on and for Linux, containerize with Docker, and use AWS for deployment, data storage, computing, caching, and web app hosting. Your work will directly impact the company's ability to build successful products in which CO2 is removed from the atmosphere and the effects of global warming are mitigated.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and improve cloud-based data processing pipelines
  • Design and build web-based user interfaces for data analysis
  • Model and analyze key system subprocesses
  • Collaborate with process and control engineers, materials scientists, and system analysts on data collection and processing


Requirements
  • Functional knowledge with Python, familiarity with pandas and NumPy
  • Functional knowledge with Comfort with the Linux command line
  • Familiarity with Git
  • The ability to flourish in a fluid project environment
  • A strong capacity for self-learning new software libraries, tools, and platforms
  • The ability to grasp scientific concepts relevant to projects, mainly in the domains of thermodynamics, mechanical engineering, and materials science
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for: design discussions and documentation, product requirements discussions and documentation, and project tracking


Desired Background
  • Scientific Python proficiency
  • Experience building scientific computation/data analysis tools for scientific research/applications
  • Front end development experience, or an ability to learn front end development (for example, Dash)
  • Experience with or ability to learn Matplotlib and Plotly APIs
  • Experience with or ability to learn/collaborate with: SCADA system architecture, Ignition HMI development, PLC development
  • Experience with or ability to learn SQL
  • Experience with or ability to learn AWS-based system development (e.g. S3, Lambda, Athena)
