SALARY RANGE: The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from: $114,332 to $142,916

Job Summary

The Interconnections Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of engineers and external contractors that evaluates the technical feasibility of interconnecting new distributed energy resource projects. This role involves managing the interconnection process as well as overseeing the performance of system planning studies to ensure regulatory compliance and the maintenance of a reliable electric grid. The Interconnections Supervisor will coordinate with internal engineering and project development teams, as well as external regulatory bodies to ensure a smooth and efficient interconnection process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Oversee the interconnection process from initial feasibility to the commencement of project execution, ensuring that internal processes are efficient in supporting the proposed deadlines and budget constraints. Supervise consultants who provide planning services to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements

  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance distribution system studies, including power flow analysis (voltage and thermal) and short circuit analysis to ensure the grid can reliably accommodate proposed DER projects. Support study scoping and completion of complex interconnection studies.

  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of engineers providing guidance and support to ensure their success. May serve as a department leader in absence of Interconnections Manager.

  • Customer Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and renewable energy developers, providing clear communication and support throughout the interconnection process.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all interconnection activities comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including those related to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), as applicable.

  • Internal & External Coordination: Coordinate with internal teams, such as system operations, key accounts, substation engineering, transmission planning, and distribution planning to promote successful project implementation. Participate and coordinate involvement in NYISO and Joint Utility working groups to ensure compliance with tariffs and procedures and identify and implement strategies to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the interconnection process. Coordinate with Investment Planning to support cost allocation determinations, when applicable.

  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve the internal interconnection process to streamline activities, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications

  • BSEE /Degree in Electrical Engineering required. Candidates from other engineering disciplines may be considered depending on relevant work experience.

  • 5+ years (Industry related experience) with the ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills.

  • Practical Engineering Experience/Application: Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction (e.g., field experience, standardization, developing the business case and defending in front of stakeholders).

  • Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment: Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and Requirements (Tariff 119 and 19, NERC, NYISO, etc.)

  • Power System Studies - Knowledge & Interpretation of Study Assumptions and Results (e.g., Comprehensive Area Studies, Power Flow, DER, Voltage, Contingency, Power Factor Correction, Short Circuit, EMT, Reliability, Capacity, etc.)

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively articulate complex concepts to various stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong preference given to applicants with advanced degrees or certifications (e.g. MSEE, PE, etc.)

  • Software Proficiency - Power System Analytics: (e.g. CYME, ASPEN, etc.)
