Sustaining engineering focuses on maintaining and supporting existing products or systems throughout their lifecycle. This discipline involves a dedicated effort to ensure the longevity, reliability, and efficiency of products after their initial development. Sustaining engineering activities encompass a range of tasks including BOM (Bill Of Material) management, identifying and resolving issues or defects, implementing product enhancements or modifications based on customer feedback or changing requirements, and managing obsolescence by finding alternative solutions for outdated components or technologies. The primary goal of sustaining engineering is to maximize the value and performance of existing products while minimizing risks and disruptions, ultimately contributing to customer satisfaction and the overall success of the organisation. The Sustaining Engineer will be the connection between the company’s engineering staff and the site, to become the technical guidance to other employees in activities where the design of the product is involved and/or technical expertise is needed.

  • Provide technical support for production issues and improvements.

  • Assist sourcing in vendor-related issues and improvements.

  • Ensure product updates for regulatory compliance and manage customer-driven customizations and OEM projects.

  • Engage in value engineering, cost reduction, and the introduction of new processes.

  • Support after-sales organization in resolving field issues.

  • Offer technical guidance to internal and external customers, especially to Production Departments.

  • Maintain products for agency listings (UL, UKCA, CE, TUV, IMQ, etc.) and compliance with design standards (Machinery Directive, Technical Standards, etc.), safety, and environmental regulations (RoHs, REACH, etc.).

  • Implement Engineering Change Notices for products built on-site.

  • Develop and implement Product Change Requests according to Engineering Change Notice approvals, adhering to company policies.

  • Collaborate with Quality, Production, and Manufacturing Engineering to monitor production processes and product testing capabilities, identifying and prioritizing issues, and detailing necessary changes.

  • Understand the basics of the Engineering Change process.

  • Helps the work of factories abroad

  • Preparation of ECR/ECN package based upon sustaining changes and/or release of product extensions.

  • Supporting with tooling modifications and implements new tooling as necessary for the creation of product extensions and new products

  • Ensures proper functioning of assembly and test fixtures. Providing input to the design of new assembly and test fixtures.

  • Validation of alternate components, manufacturing processes and/or suppliers, supporting the implementation of cost reduction initiatives

  • Review and support the introduction of new product designs ensuring manufacturability. Interacts with design teams to determine the qualification and manufacturability of new technologies.

Required Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field required with 2+ years professional experience preferred. Masters degree is a plus.

  • Experience with hands-on work in a research and development environment including experience in piping and plumbing and water treatment technologies

  • Knowledge of Bill of Materials (BOM) generation, and engineering change process and documentation

  • Project management experience (including budgeting/scheduling) and working in an interdisciplinary team preferred

  • Experience in 2D and 3D CAD and part design and documentation preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, required

  • Proficient Microsoft Office Suite and quick to learn new software

  • Safety-first mindset, ability to follow all safety rules and wear all required safety equipment

  • Knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems is a strong plus
