THE ROLE: The Tube Cutter will be responsible to cut, bend, thread, and trim tubes for assembly of heat exchangers in our Shell and Tube Product Line within the Cheektowaga facility. In this role, the ideal candidate will also be required to stand at a workstation and worked in a fast paced work environment. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Receives instructions and performs required operations.
  • Perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of practices and techniques, principle of application and operation of various types of equipment, machines, tools, fixtures and instruments.
  • Plans and carries out all tasks related to setting up and operating tube preparation equipment.
  • Verifies material is correct (quality, type, etc.) prior to start of any operation.
  • Maintains required tolerances, alignment, bend radii and length.
  • Cuts, trims, bends, threads, deburrs, heats-materials as required and directed. Bundles, racks materials as required to transport or store. Identifies tubes with contract and/or part number, size, material type, and gauge.
  • Cut up scrap material to usable lengths, bundle if appropriate and label with material type, size and gauge.
  • Obtains parts, fixtures and tools necessary to perform assigned duties.
  • Maintain straightness and length of coil cut tubing dimensions and tolerance as well as trimmed tube ends. Perform on-going in process inspection using appropriate gauges.
  • Sign off on paperwork per procedure or as directed to indicate operator has checked his/her work and it conforms to the applicable fabrication documents and to maintain status of fabrication.
  • Verify all gauges and measuring tools are within proper calibration dates.
  • Lubricate and clean tools/equipment daily.
  • Perform daily safety checks on power vehicles and record findings on checkoff sheets.
  • Observe all safety and shop rules.
  • Each person is responsible for the quality of work and inspection, checking to ensure that all product or pieces meet specifications and quantities without deviation and report any such deviations.
  • Assist and/or train new employees in job classification.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and safe environment throughout work area, sweeps area, clear debris, arranges product, etc. on a daily basis. Notifies supervisor of any unsafe conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalency

Experience

  • Six (6) months assembly experience in a manufacturing environment

DAY IN THE LIFE:

In this role, the working environment is a typical heavy manufacturing facility with welding, machining, assembly etc. The physical demands may include but not limited to walking, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and lifting up to 35lbs.
