The NREL Hydrogen Safety Research and Development Program enables the use of hydrogen as a renewable energy source. A critical element of the HSR&D portfolio is the NREL Hydrogen Sensor Laboratory which supports the development and deployment of sensors for the detection of hydrogen releases. Laboratory performance testing and deployment studies within NREL Hydrogen facilities are core position requirements.
The intern will be trained on using the NREL Sensor Laboratory sensor test equipment to evaluate the analytical performance of emerging sensor technologies under the supervision of senior NREL personnel. The sensor evaluations will include performance testing of sensors, data analysis, and presentation of results internally to the NREL team and externally to outside partners and collaborations.
The intern for this position must be available for onsite work beyond summer 2025. This internship may be part-time during the semester and full-time during summer. If recently graduated, the intern may work 40 hours/week year-round.

The candidate should have laboratory skill commiserate with their level of education. Additional skills include the ability to set up experiments and working knowledge of data analysis software (Excel or other advanced analysis tool).
