Title: Manager of Gas Technical Services (Gas Engineering)

Location: Rochester, NY OR Binghamton, NY

Reports to: Senior Director of Gas Engineering

Work Type: In Office

Salary: The base salary for this position is dependent upon experience and location ranging from $125,766 - 157,208

Summary:

  • Manage the activities of the Gas Engineering (Technical Services) Group across the NY Avangrid Companies, NYSEG, and RG&E.
  • Provide leadership and direction to a team of Supervisors, Project Managers, Engineers, and Analysts to achieve business objectives, integrate best practices, and drive change.
  • Interpret company, industry, local, state, and national codes, tariffs, and standards to establish and implement controls that ensure Avangrid compliance.
  • Manage and implement the Transmission Integrity Management Program (TIMP) and Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP).
  • Revise and maintain controlled business documentation, including Operations & Maintenance Procedures, Gas Construction Standards, Gas Material Specifications, and Emergency Response procedures.
  • Implement the Gas R&D Program and strategize program objectives in anticipation of future business requirements.
  • Provide support and technical insights towards planned or emergent Gas Operations, Gas Engineering, and Avangrid objectives.
  • Ensure project resources have the correct toolsets and processes in place, and that relevant staff is trained and equipped to successfully deliver their work.

Job Requirements:

Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.

  • Minimum 7-10 years relevant gas distribution design experience. PE license desirable. PMP desirable.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of gas transmission and distribution design.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing large teams.

  • Demonstrated understanding of utility operations and regulatory requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience in the execution of strategic objectives.

  • Proven track record of achieving results in high-pressure and high-profile assignments.

  • General contract, commercial, and regulatory awareness with the ability to balance effective and efficient customer service and project delivery, ensuring maximum return on investment.

  • Track record of effective stakeholder and customer service engagement and management.

  • Knowledge of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance standards in accordance with regulatory requirements.

  • Rate Case support.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Oversee and manage employees implementing the Integrity Management Program, maintaining controlled gas engineering documentation, and implementing the Gas R&D Program. Interface and support Operations, Engineering, Stores, Materials Management, and others to achieve relevant Company goals.

  • Oversee and manage employees responsible for prioritizing Leak Prone Pipe for replacement and identifying system risk (TIMP/DIMP).

  • Investigate potential and actual failures of gas delivery system materials. Recommends corrective actions and develop remediation plans.

  • Represent the company in public outreach efforts, including public meetings as requested.

  • Strong management and leadership skills, ability to drive change and adoption of new technologies.

  • Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels.

  • Awareness and understanding of key business drivers.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to articulate highly technical concepts.

  • Energizing leader that possesses strong interpersonal communication and facilitation skills, detail-oriented, thorough, and results-focused.

  • Ability to follow up and follow through with action items and dependencies.

  • Familiarity with budget preparation.

  • Adept at putting together business cases to support program objectives.

  • Develop appropriate metrics and reports.

  • Drive a practice of continuous improvement - using data to drive constant improvement and efficiency.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgment to determine optimal solutions.

  • Perform standard and complex engineering analyses, designs, and calculations using standard methodology and principles and other viable approaches. Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or to improve processes/services.
